Mark wrote how Jesus said, “Go you into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him. And wheresoever he shall go in, say you to the goodman of the house, The Master said, Where is the guest-chamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? And he will show you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us. And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover”, and in chapter fourteen and verse seventeen of his book, Mark shared, “in the evening he came with the twelve” where we read:
And in the evening he came with the twelve.
The verse reads, “And in the evening ...” Mark began with the words, “and in the evening” which means “and in time from six o'clock p.m. to the beginning of night”. Mark shared the time of night when the following occurred.
The verse continues, “...he came with the twelve.” Mark added the words, “he came” which means “Jesus arose and appeared” “with the twelve” or “alongside His twelve disciples”. Mark shared how Jesus went to the “upper room” with His twelve disciples.
When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we notice the progression and timing of the events leading up to Jesus sacrificing His life on the cross. “Passover” was at hand, and Jesus being the “sacrificial lamb” to pay for the sins of mankind was being prepared. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and for that to occur, Jesus had to pay for their sins which separated them from God. Each event, each timing and each appearance by Jesus and His disciples align with God's wonderful plan to provide “salvation” to people, and those who are wise will yield their lives to the One who planned all these things for them.
Next time Mark shares how Jesus says, “One of you which eats with me shall betray me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
