Woe to Them with Child - Mark 13:17

Mark wrote how Jesus toward the end of the age, “you shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. But when you shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that reads understand), then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains. And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house. And let him that is in the field not turn back again for to take up his garment”, and in chapter thirteen and verse seventeen of his book, Mark shared how Jesus said, “woe to them that are with child” where we read:

But woe to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!

The verse reads, “But woe to them that are with child, ...” Mark began with the words, “But woe to them” or “nevertheless, notwithstanding, moreover and alas as an expression of grief to the women” “that are with child” which means “who are pregnant, carrying, possessing and clinging to a baby within their womb”. Mark shared how women who are pregnant will incur exceeding great “grief” when the “abomination of desolation” occurs.

The verse continues, “... and to them that give suck in those days! Mark added the words, “and to them” which means “and to the women” “that give suck” or “who are nursing their infants” “in those days” which means “in the days of the abomination of desolation”. Mark shared how Jesus also included “nursing mothers” as those who will be subject to a greater measure of “grief” during this time.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see how “pregnant and nursing” mothers will be greatly grieved during the time of the “abomination of desolation”. (See Revelation 13 for more information). God desires to “save” people from these things well in advance of them taking place, and by receiving His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they will obtain His “salvation” and the promise of “everlasting life”. Those who are wise will not wait until these things occur. Receive Jesus Christ today, and trust Him with the timing and troubles of all these other events.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus says, “pray that your flight be not in the winter”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
