When You See These Things - Mark 13:29

Mark wrote how Jesus instructed His disciples to, “learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near”, and in chapter thirteen and verse twenty-nine of his book, Mark shared how Jesus said, “when you shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors”, where we read:

So you in like manner, when you shall see these things come to pass,

know that it is nigh, even at the doors.

The verse reads, “So you in like manner, when you shall see these things come to pass, ...” Mark began with the words, “so you in like manner” or “therefore, wherefore and on account of these things Jesus' disciples in the same way and likeness”, “when you shall see these things” which means “at the time and moment Jesus' disciples observe, notice and discern the tender branch bringing forth leaves” “come to pass” or “happen and appear upon the public stage”. Mark shared how Jesus began to give His disciples instruction concerning the timing of all the things of which He spoke.

The verse goes on to say, “... know that it is nigh, even at the doors. Mark continued with the words, “know” which means “understand, perceive, notice and discern” “that it is nigh” or “that the coming of the Son of man is very close and near”, “even at the doors” which means “indeed and also at the entrance or passage way”. Mark shared how Jesus told His disciples when they saw the things about which He spoke happening, they should “understand” that His coming is very “near at hand”.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus desired for His disciples to know the significance and general timing of the horrific events which would occur upon the earth. His coming would be imminent when these things happen, and those who belong to Him will be “saved” from them. Those who do not know Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be left behind to endure the most horrific time of tribulation the world has ever known, so wisdom calls out for people to surrender their lives to Him well in advance of these awful things.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus says, “this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
