What Will The Lord of the Vineyard Do? - Mark 12:9

Mark wrote how Jesus, “began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a vineyard, and set an hedge about it, and dug a place for the winefat, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country. And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard. And they caught him, and beat him, and sent him away empty. And again he sent unto them another servant;and at him they cast stones, and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled. And again he sent another; and him they killed, and many others; beating some, and killing some. Having yet therefore one son, his well- beloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son. But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours. And they took him, and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.”, and in chapter twelve and verse eight of his book, Mark shared how Jesus asks, “what shall ... the lord of the vineyard do?” where we read:

What shall therefore the lord of the vineyard do?

he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others.

The verse reads, “What shall therefore the lord of the vineyard do? Mark began with the words, “what shall therefore” which means “what is it then, wherefore and these things being so” “the lord” or “the one to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding and is known as master” “of the vineyard do” which means “pertaining to the field of vines owner perform and prepare”? Mark shared how Jesus asked the “religious leaders” what the “lord of the vineyard” would “do” when he heard that the “husbandmen” killed his son.

The verse goes on to say, he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others. Mark continued with the words, “he will come” which means “the lord of the vineyard will arise, appear and come forth” “and destroy” or “and ruin, render useless, abolish and put to death” “the husbandmen” which refers to “the vinedressers and tillers of the field”, “and will give” or “and will grant, bestow, furnish and supply” “the vineyard” which means “the field of vines that bear fruit” “unto others” or “to other husbandmen”. Mark shared how the owner of the “vineyard” would judge and get revenge upon the “husbandmen” who killed his servants and son, and he will “give” the “vineyard” to other “husbandmen”.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see how there was to be a day of judgment for the “husbandmen” who killed the “lord of the vineyard's” servants and sons. The first “husbandmen” were unreliable and wicked, and when their “judgment day” came, they would pay with their lives for their misdeeds. God's desire is to have people be in a relationship with Him through His Son Jesus, and should they refuse the “only begotten Son of God”, they shall give an account for their rejection of Him. Let all who read these words understand the implications Jesus made to the “religious leaders” and yield their lives to Him before it is too late and their judgment day has come.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus asks the “religious leaders”, “have you not read this scripture” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
