Mark wrote how Jesus told His disciples to, “learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. So you in like manner, when you shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors”, and in chapter thirteen and verse thirty of his book, Mark shared how Jesus said, “this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done”, where we read:
Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.
The verse reads, “Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, ...” Mark began with the word, “verily” or “truly and surely” “I say unto you” which means “Jesus utters, declares and proclaims to His disciples”, “that this generation” or “the people who are of the same stock, natural descent and successive members of a genealogy who are alive during the happening of these things” “shall not pass” which means “will not perish, be averted, go forward or arrive”. Mark shared how Jesus declared the “people” of the “generation” who are alive during the events of which Jesus spoke will not “perish” until the following occurs.
The verse continues, “... till all these things be done.” Mark added the words, “till all these things” which means “until each, every, the whole and everyone of the events of which Jesus spoke” “be done” or “arise, come into existence, appear in history or come upon the stage”. Mark shared how Jesus said the people who are living during the time of the events of which Jesus spoke will not “perish” until all the things He spoke of come to pass.
When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus knew people who live in the generation of these events will not pass away until everything He spoke of comes to pass. God's desire is to inform people concerning these things so they will know in advance what will happen upon the earth before He sends His Son Jesus back again. God wants everyone to receive His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” because they will be “saved” from these things, but those who refuse and reject Him will endure suffering on the earth like the world has never seen.
Next time Mark shares how Jesus says, “Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
