Jesus' Loud Voice and Giving Up the Ghost - Mark 15:37

Mark wrote as Jesus hung on the cross, “one ran and filled a sponge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying,Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down”, and in chapter fifteen and verse thirty-seven of his book, Mark shared how, “Jesus cried with a loud voice” where we read:

And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.

The verse reads, “And Jesus cried with a loud voice, ...” Mark began with the words, “and Jesus cried” or “and the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation shouted out and remitted” “with a loud voice” which means “with a great, intense and mighty sound, tone and noise”. Mark shared how Jesus “shouted” with a “mighty sound”.

The verse goes on to say, “... and gave up the ghost. Mark continued with the words, “and gave up” or “and breathed out or expired” “the ghost” which means “His spirit”. Mark shared how Jesus “breathed out” His last breath and died.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we notice this last act of Jesus as He died upon the cross. Jesus “cried out” in anguish as He gave up His last breath. Jesus was at this point “dead”, and His work of paying the penalty for the “sins” of mankind was finished. Jesus, who was righteous and perfect in every way, made the way for people to have a personal relationship with God, and those who believe and trust in Him as their “Savior and Lord” shall not only become God's children, but also inherit everlasting life with Him.

Next time Mark shares how, “the veil of the temple was rent in twain”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
