Jesus Answered Nothing - Mark 15:5

Mark wrote how, “in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate. And Pilate asked him, Are you the King of the Jews? And he answering said unto him, You said it. And the chief priests accused him of many things: but he answered nothing. And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answer you nothing? behold how many things they witness against you”, and in chapter fifteen and verse five of his book, Mark shared how “Jesus yet answered nothing” where we read:

But Jesus yet answered nothing; so that Pilate marveled.

The verse reads, “But Jesus yet answered nothing;”. Mark began with the words, “But Jesus” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding, moreover and the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation”, “yet answered nothing” or “still did not respond or say a word”. Mark shared how Jesus continued to be “silent” before Pilate.

The verse goes on to say, “so that Pilate marveled. Mark continued with the words, “so that Pilate” which means “which caused the sixth Roman procurator of Judah and Samaria who ordered Christ to be crucified whose name means armed with a spear to be” “marveled” or “wondered and admired”. Mark shared how Pilate was filled with “wonder” concerning Jesus' lack of defense against His charges.

When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus fulfilled yet another scripture concerning the Messiah as He stood “silent” before His accusers. Even when He was asked twice by Pilate concerning His lack of defense, Jesus still did not speak. God spoke of this through His prophet Isaiah as He told how the “Messiah” would not speak “like a lamb led to the slaughter”, and this was part of His plan to “save” people who put their faith and trust in His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Jesus not responding to the “high priests” accusations should make everyone “marvel” who knows what it means to be “accused”.

Next time Mark shares, “at that feast he released unto them one prisoner”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
