The Multitude Crying Aloud - Mark 15:8

Mark wrote how, “Now at that feast he released unto them one prisoner, whomsoever they desired. And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection”, and in chapter fifteen and verse eight of his book, Mark shared how, “the multitude crying aloud began to desire him to do” where we read:

And the multitude crying aloud began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them.

The verse reads, “And the multitude crying aloud ...”. Mark began with the words, “And the multitude” which means “and the crowd of people who were observing the high priests and their accusations against Jesus” “crying aloud” or “raised their voices to halloo and shout”. Mark shared how the “crowd” watching this trial of Jesus “shouted” and ask for the following.

The verse continues, “... began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them. Mark added the words, “began to desire him” which means “initiated and started to crave, ask, beg and require Pilate” “to do as he had ever done” or “to perform and produce in likeness to the way Pilate produced” “unto them” which refers to “toward the crowd of people”. Mark shared how the crowd of people wanted “Pilate” to honor at this point what he had produced in the past.

When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how the “multitude” got involved with the trial of Jesus. Because they traditionally had a prisoner released to them during the “feast” time, they wanted Pilate to observe that same tradition that day. The desire of the crowd was to have Jesus “crucified” because the “high priests” influenced what they requested. This was God's plan to “save” people from their sins, and when a person carefully considers the act of the crowd and believes and trusts in God's Son Jesus Christ as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they shall receive “everlasting life” from Him.

Next time Mark shares how Pilate asked the crowd, “will you that I release unto you the King of the Jews?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
