Numbered with the Transgressors - Mark 15:28

Mark wrote when they crucified Jesus, “they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take. And it was the third hour, and they crucified him. And the superscription of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS. And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left”, and in chapter fifteen and verse twenty-eight of his book, Mark shared how Jesus fulfilled the scripture, “and he was numbered with the transgressors” where we read:

And the scripture was fulfilled, which said, And he was numbered with the transgressors.

The verse reads, “And the scripture was fulfilled, which said, ...”. Mark began with the words, “and the scripture” or “and the certain portion, writing or section of the Holy Scripture or Word of God” “was fulfilled” which means “was rendered full, supplied, furnished and completed”, “which said” or “that affirmed, related by a systematic or set discourse”. Mark shared how God's Holy Word and prophecy concerning the following words was completed.

The verse continues, “... And he was numbered with the transgressors. Mark added the words, “and he was numbered” which means “and the Messiah, Christ and Son of God was reckoned, counted, computed and accounted” “with the transgressors” or “alongside violators of the law, the wicked and lawless”. Mark shared how the Messiah was to be “reckoned” with “violators” of the law.

When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus “completed” another prophesy concerning the Messiah. Isaiah chapter fifty-three and verse twelve says, Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he has poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors”, and when the “two thieves” were crucified on Jesus' right and left side, He “fulfilled” what Isaiah said. Isaiah wrote his words some seven hundred years before Jesus “completed” them, and because God lives in the eternal, He is able to see things happen before they occur. God desires every person to believe in His Son Jesus so they may be forgiven of their sins and live forever with Him. Those who are wise will consider this prophesy and realize and believe, Jesus is the Messiah and Savior of the world.

Next time Mark shares how, “they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
