Luke the beloved physician shared how Jesus said, “A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that has ears to hear, let him hear. And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be? And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand”, and in chapter eight and verse eleven of his book Luke shared how Jesus says, “the seed is the word of God” where we read:
Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
The verse reads, “Now the parable is this:” Luke began with the words, “now the parable” or “moreover the earthly story with a heavenly meaning” “is this” which means “is explained in the following words”. Luke shared how Jesus began to share what the “parable” meant.
The verse goes on to say, “The seed is the word of God.” Luke continued with the words, “the seed” which means “the scattering seed sown by the sower or farmer” “is the word” or “is the speech, mandate, order and discourse” “of God” which means “belonging to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Luke shared how Jesus said the “seed” sown by the “sower” was “God's speech and discourse”.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn about the “seed” Jesus made reference to in His story. The “seed” is the “word of God”, and there is no disputing what Jesus declared. God's desire is to have everyone know His “word”, and those who have their hearts and minds open to His “gospel” of “salvation” through His Son Jesus Christ begin to understand His desire to have a personal relationship with them. Let all who read the words of Jesus' “parable” know and understand that God's “word” goes forth, and the type of “soil” in which it is sown will determine the outcome of it's germination and fruit bearing.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “by the way side”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
