The beloved physician Luke shared how Jesus asked, “why behold you the mote that is in your brother's eye, but perceive not the beam that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of your own eye, and then shall you see clearly to pull out the mote that is in your brother's eye”, and in chapter six and verse forty-three of his book Luke shares how Jesus said, “a good tree brings not forth corrupt fruit” where we read:
For a good tree brings not forth corrupt fruit; neither does a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
The verse reads, “For a good tree brings not forth corrupt fruit;” Luke began with the words, “for a good tree” or “because, since and on account that a beautiful, excellent, eminent, choice, surpassing, precious, useful, suitable and admirable tree” “brings not forth” which means “does not produce, make or prepare” “corrupt fruit” or “rotten, putrefied, poor quality, bad, worthless, and unfit for use fruit or produce”. Luke shared how Jesus said “good trees” do not produce “bad fruit”.
The verse goes on to say, “neither does a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.” Luke added the words, “neither does a corrupt tree” which means “nor and not in anyway does a rotten, putrified, poor quality, bad, worthless, and unfit for use tree” “bring forth good fruit” or “ make, produce or prepare beautiful, excellent, eminent, choice, surpassing, precious, useful, suitable and admirable fruit or produce”. Luke shared how Jesus added that “worthless and bad” trees do not produce “beautiful and excellent” “fruit”.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus used the example of “good and bad trees” and their corresponding produce which comes from their inherent nature. “Good” produces “good”, and “bad” produces “bad”, and because the nature of people needed to change, Jesus Christ was sent to the world to be the “Savior and Lord” of all who believe and trust in Him. God knows the true “heart” within everyone, and when they yield their lives to Him they begin to produce “good fruit” of which not only God but also others will partake.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “every tree is known by his own fruit”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
