Luke the beloved physician wrote how, “the disciples of John showed” John “of all these things. And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Are you he that should come? or look we for another? When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist has sent us unto you, saying, Are you he that should come? or look we for another? And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight. Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things you have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached”, and in chapter seven and verse twenty-three of his book Luke shared how Jesus told John the Baptist's disciples, “blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me” where we read:
And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
The verse reads, “And blessed is he, ...” Luke began with the words, “and blessed” or “and oh how happy, fortunate and well off” “is he” which means “is the person whether male or female”. Luke shared how Jesus said people are “oh how happy” who comply with the following.
The verse continues, “... whosoever shall not be offended in me.” Luke added the word, “whosoever” which means “whatever person whether male or female” “shall not be offended” or “will not exist as ones who are caused to fall away, judge unfavorably and unjustly of another and hinder from acknowledging the authority” “in me” which means “within Jesus”. Luke shared how Jesus said the person who does not “unjustly judge” Him unfavorably is a “blessed” person.
When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus continued to send a message to John the Baptist by letting Him know people who are not “offended” by Him are the ones who are “most happy”. Though John did not understand Jesus' plan and purpose, He should believe in Him anyway. God loves people, and although they do not always know what He has in mind, they respond best when they “believe and trust” in Him for who He is and the salvation He has sent through His Son Jesus Christ. Let all who read these words know and believe.
Next time Luke shares, “when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
