Judge and Condemn Not - Luke 6:37

The beloved physician Luke shared how Jesus said, “love you your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and you shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Be you therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful”, and in chapter six and verse thirty-seven of his book Luke shares how Jesus said, “judge not, and you shall not be judged: condemn not, and you shall not be condemned” where we read:

Judge not, and you shall not be judged: condemn not, and you shall not be condemned:

forgive, and you shall be forgiven:

The verse reads, “Judge not, and you shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned:” Luke began with the words, “Judge not” or “even so and indeed do not put asunder, esteem, resolve and decree as wrong”, “and you shall not be judged” which means “and Jesus' disciples would not be put asunder, esteemed, resolved and decreed as wrong”: “condemn not” or “do not give judgment against or pronounce as guilty”, “and you shall not be condemned” which means “and Jesus' disciples would not be judged against or pronounced as guilty”. Luke shared how Jesus told the disciples listening to Him not to “decree people as wrong” and they would not receive the same, and if they would not “pronounce people as guilty” they would not receive “condemnation” either.

The verse goes on to say, forgive, and you shall be forgiven: Luke continued with the word, “forgive” which means “set free, dismiss, detain no longer and release people from debts and wrongs”, “and you shall be forgiven” or “and Jesus' disciples would be set free, dismissed, detained no longer and released people from debts and wrongs”. Luke shared how Jesus instructed the disciples listening to Him to “set people from from their wrongs” and they would receive the same.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus addressed “judging, condemning and forgiving” with His disciples. People naturally “judge, condemn and do not forgive” others, and Jesus' disciples were to manifest a different way of living. Jesus said His disciples would not experience “judgment or condemnation” and would be “forgiven” when they extended these traits to others. God is the ultimate “judge”. He has the power to “condemn”, and yet, He “forgives” those who believe and trust in His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. When a person yields their life to Jesus, He provides His Holy Spirit to help them live in a non-judging, non-condemning and forgiving manner.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “give, and it shall be given unto you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
