Jesus Having Somewhat to Say to Simon the Pharisee - Luke 7:40

Luke the beloved physician wrote about Jesus, “And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat. And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spoke within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that touches him: for she is a sinner”, and in chapter seven and verse forty of his book Luke shared how, “Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto you” where we read:

And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto you.

And he said, Master, say on.

The verse reads, “And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto you.” Luke began with the words, “And Jesus answering” or “and the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation responding and beginning to speak” “said unto him” which means “uttered, declared and proclaimed to the Pharisee”, “Simon” or “little rock or stone”, “I have somewhat to say unto you” which means “I, Jesus, have a certain thing to utter, declare and proclaim to the Pharisee Simon”. Luke shared how Jesus began to respond to the conclusion Simon the Pharisee made under his breath about the woman and Jesus.

The verse goes on to say, “And he said, Master, say on.” Luke continued with the words, “and he said” which means “and Simon the Pharisee uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “Master” or “teacher and instructor”, “say on” which means “utter, declare and proclaim what you have to say”. Luke shared how Simon the Pharisee invited Jesus to continue His words toward him.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus desired to respond to the Pharisee's conclusion concerning Him and the woman. Jesus gave Simon the opportunity to answer Him as He presented the idea of saying something to him to which Simon told Jesus to continue speaking. Jesus was willing to hear and correct any person who made judgments about Him or other people, and when He wanted to speak to them directly, they did best to allow Him to share. God loves people, and although they make misjudgments about others or even He Himself, He is willing to bring them to the knowledge of the truth so they might believe and trust in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Those who are wise will receive Jesus' instruction and correction and yield their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus speaks of, “a certain creditor which had two debtors” did, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
