The Great Faith Not Found - Luke 7:9

Luke the beloved physician wrote when Jesus was traveling to a centurion's house to heal his servant, the centurion sent word to Jesus, “Lord, trouble not yourself: for I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof. Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto you: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed. For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my servant, Do this, and he does it, and in chapter seven and verse nine of his book Luke shared how Jesus said, “I have not found so great faith”, where we read:

When Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

The verse reads, “When Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, ...” Luke began with the words, “when Jesus heard these things” or “at the time and moment the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate perceived, understood and discerned the speech of the centurion”, “he marveled at them” which means “Jesus wondered and admired the words of the centurion”, “and turned him about” or “and turned around”, “and said” which means “and uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “unto the people that followed him” or “to the male and female human beings who were accompanying and joining with the group behind Jesus”. Luke shared how Jesus “admired” the words of this centurion, turned to the crowd of people who were “following” Him and declared the next words to them.

The verse continues, “... I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.” Luke added the words, “I say unto you” which means “Jesus utters, declares and proclaim to the people following Him”, “I have not found” or “I, Jesus, have not discovered, come upon, learned, experienced or detected” “so great faith” which means “this quantity, vastness or great belief, trust, assurance or fidelity”, “no, not in Israel” or “neither, nor or not even within Israel which means he shall be prince and refers to the family, descendants and nation of Israel”. Luke shared how Jesus told the people following Him that He had not discovered such “great trust and belief” as was demonstrated by this centurion in all of “Israel”.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus responded to the centurion's words. Jesus “admired” what this man said, and He was so impressed that He turned to the crowd to make note of the centurion's “faith”. God wants people to believe and trust in Him, and when they submit their lives to His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they benefit not only to their own lives, but also others who are around them. Let those reading these words have the “faith of the centurion”, and trust in the “power and authority” of Jesus who is able to “forgive their sins” and grant them “everlasting life” with God.

Next time Luke shares how the centurion's messengers, “returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
