There is Yet Room - Luke 14:22

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus said, “A certain man made a great supper, and bade many, and sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray you have me excused. And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray you have me excused. And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. So that servant came, and showed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind”, and in chapter fourteen and verse twenty-two of his book Luke shared how Jesus continued, “the servant said, Lord it is done as you commanded, and yet there is room” where we read:

And the servant said, Lord, it is done as you have commanded, and yet there is room.

The verse reads, “And the servant said, Lord, it is done as you have commanded, ...” Luke began with the words, “and the servant said” or “and the man of servile condition, slave or bondman uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “Lord” which means “master and one to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding”, “it is done” or “it has been completed and finished” “as you have commanded” which means “even like and indeed as the master and lord enjoined, ordered and charged”. Luke shared how Jesus said the “servant” of the master told him that he completed his order to invite people to his feast.

The verse goes on to say, “... and yet there is room.” Luke continued with the words, “and yet” or “and even so and still” “there is room” or “there exists space to eat”. Luke shared how Jesus said there remained “space” for others to fill at the master's feast even though the “poor, maimed, halt and blind” were invited.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus said the “servant” of the “master” returned to him after inviting the “poor, maimed, halt and blind” and told him there remained “space” for other people at his feast. God wants all people to come to Him, and when they yield their lives to His Son Jesus they have accepted His invitation to be with Him forever. Without a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, no one will be forgiven of their sins and they shall be separated eternally from Him. There is “room” at God's feast for all, and those who are wise will yield their lives to Him and receive His invitation.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus said the host said, “Go out into the highway and hedges”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
