The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus said, “Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it. I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left”, and in chapter seventeen and verse thirty-six of his book Luke wrote Jesus said, “two men shall be in the field” where we read:
Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
The verse reads, “Two men shall be in the field;” Luke began with the words, “Two men” or “two male human beings” “shall be in the field” which means “will be located within the country, bit of tillage, farm, piece of ground or hamlet”. Luke shared how Jesus said “two men” would be in a “field” or upon a piece of ground and the following would occur.
The verse continues, “the one shall be taken, and the other left.” Luke added the words, “the one shall be taken” or “the certain and particular man will be accepted, not rejected and received”, “and the other left” which means “and the other man will be sent away, departed let go and disregarded”. Luke shared how Jesus said one of the men within the “field” would be “received and accepted” and the other would be “rejected and let go”.
When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we see yet another example given by Jesus of one person who is “received” when the Son of man appears, and the other “rejected and let go”. People who put their faith and trust in Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be “saved” when He appears, but those who refuse and reject a relationship with Him will find they too are “rejected” when He returns. God desires to have a relationship with everyone through His Son Jesus, and because He loves them, He has provided the way of escape from rejection. Those who are wise will yield to God's offer of “salvation” before Jesus returns when they discover they are too late to make the decision to follow Him.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus' disciples ask Him, “where Lord?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
