God Avenging Speedily - Luke 18:8

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus, “spoke a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man. And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of my adversary. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man. Yet because this widow troubles me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge says. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?”, and in chapter eighteen and verse eight of his book Luke wrote how Jesus says God, “will avenge them speedily” where we read:

I tell you that he will avenge them speedily.

Nevertheless when the Son of man comes, shall he find faith on the earth?

The verse reads, “I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Luke began with the words, “I tell you” or “I, Jesus, affirm, maintain, exhort and advise you disciples” “that he will avenge them” which means “that God the Father will bring vengeance, punishment and a revenging upon the adversaries of the one who prays” “speedily” or “quickly, shortly and in haste”. Luke shared how Jesus told His disciples that God would very quickly bring “vengeance and punishment” upon the adversaries of His elect.

The verse goes on to say, “Nevertheless when the Son of man comes, shall he find faith on the earth?” Luke continued with the word, “nevertheless” or “moreover, besides and except” “when the son of man comes” which means “at the time and moment Jesus arises and appears”, “shall he find faith” or “will he, Jesus, discover, notice and observe strong conviction of truth, belief that Jesus is the Messiah through whom we obtain eternal salvation in the kingdom of God” “on the earth” which means “upon the arable land, the ground, country, territory and region”? Luke shared how Jesus questioned whether or not He would discover any “belief and trust” upon the “earth” when He returns.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we discover the promise of Jesus that God would “vindicate” those who persistently come to His Father God, however, He also wondered if there would be any “faith” upon the “earth” at the time of His return. Belief and trust in God and His Son Jesus secures not only eternal life with Him but also the assurance that He will hear their prayers and grant them what they desire according to His purpose and plan. God loves people, and He wants them to believe in Jesus, and those who are wise will have “faith and belief” when He returns.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus, “spoke” a “parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
