The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus said, “Take heed to yourselves: If your brother trespass against you, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him. And if he trespass against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to you, saying, I repent; you shall forgive him”, and in chapter seventeen and verse five of his book Luke wrote how, “the apostles said unto the Lord, increase our faith” where we read:
And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.
The verse reads, “And the apostles said unto the Lord, ...” Luke began with the words, “and the apostles” or “and Jesus' disciples who were sent out” “said unto the Lord” which means “uttered, declared and proclaimed to the one to whom a person or thing belongs about which he has power of deciding; master, and the title given to God the Messiah”. Luke shared how Jesus' “apostles” uttered the following words to Him.
The verse goes on to say, “... Increase our faith.” Luke continued with the word, “increase” or “add to and enlarge” “our faith” which means “our, Jesus' apostles, conviction of the truth, belief and confidence”. Luke shared how Jesus' “disciples or apostles” wanted Jesus to “add to” their “belief, trust and confidence”.
When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we discover the “apostles” response to Jesus telling them to “forgive” one another when they were “offended”. It's as if the “disciples” knew they needed more “faith” to “forgive” in that manner. God knows the needs of every person, and when they have “inadequacies” such as “faith”, Jesus will help. God loves every person, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus. Those who are wise will relate to Jesus and discover He is more than adequate to supply whatever they need.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus said what would happen, “if you had faith as a grain of mustard seed” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
