The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus said, “as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded. But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all”, and in chapter seventeen and verse thirty of his book Luke wrote how Jesus said, “even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed” where we read:
Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.
The verse reads, “Even thus shall it be in the day ...” Luke began with the words, “Even thus” or “in the same manner, likeness and way” “shall it be” which means “will it exist and happen” “in the day” or “within the time period” of which Jesus shall refer. Luke shared how Jesus said the “times” in the future will be like the “days of Lot”.
The verse goes on to say, “... when the Son of man is revealed.” Luke continued with the words, “when the Son of man” or “at the time and moment God's Son, Jesus Himself” “is revealed” which means “is uncovered, laid open, unveiled, disclosed and made bare and known”. Luke shared how Jesus said His “appearing and unveiling” will be like unto the unexpected “days of Lot”.
When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus employed the “sudden” judgment upon the people within “Lot's day” and “Noah's day” to describe how it will be when He appears. People will be busy about their normal activities, and suddenly, everything will change. Jesus will come on the scene and the entire world will be changed. God's desire is to “save” people from this “unexpected time” before they are surprised, and all they must do is to receive His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” to escape these things. Those who are wise will submit to Jesus and be expecting His return, and those who are not wise will face certain and unexpected judgment that will destroy all who refuse to believe in Him.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
