The beloved physician Luke wrote concerning Jesus, “as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off. And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us”, and in chapter seventeen and verse fourteen of his book Luke wrote how Jesus told the “ten lepers” to, “go show yourselves unto the priests” where we read:
And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go show yourselves unto the priests.
And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.
The verse reads, “And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go show yourselves unto the priests.” Luke began with the words, “and when he saw them” or “and at the time and moment Jesus observed, notice, discovered and discerned the ten men with leprosy”, “he said unto them” which means “Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed to the ten lepers”, “Go show yourselves” or “depart and leave to furnish and display yourselves to be observed” “unto the priests” which means “to the ones who offer sacrifices and in general in busied with sacred rites”. Luke shared how Jesus noticed the “ten lepers” and instructed them to “depart” and “display” themselves to the sacred ones who “offer sacrifices and are busied with sacred rites”.
The verse goes on to say, “And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.” Luke continued with the words, “and it came to pass” or “and it happened and appeared into existence”, “that, as they went” which means “that while and during the time the ten men with leprosy left to show themselves to the priests”, “there were cleansed” or “the ten lepers were made clean and free from defilement of the disease of leprosy”. Luke shared how when the “ten lepers” obeyed Jesus and went to show themselves to the priests, they were “cleansed” from their leprosy.
When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus responded to the requests of the “ten men with leprosy”. He sent them to show themselves to the “priests”, and as they obeyed Him and left, they were healed. God desires to help every person who will yield themselves to His Son Jesus, and regardless of their physical or spiritual state, He is able to “cleanse” them from all their “sin and disease”.
Next time Luke shares how, “one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
