As in the Days of Lot - Luke 17:28

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus said, “as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all”, and in chapter seventeen and verse twenty-eight of his book Luke wrote how Jesus said, “likewise also as it was in the days of Lot” where we read:

Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot;

they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;

The verse reads, “Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; Luke began with the words, “likewise also” or “in the same manner and likeness even so and indeed” “as it was in the days” which means “like and similar to the way people existed within the time period” “of Lot” or “belonging to Lot whose name means veil or covering and was the son of Haran and nephew to Abraham”. Luke shared how Jesus referred to the “time” when “Lot” was on the earth. (See Genesis 13, 18 and 19)

The verse goes on to say,they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;Luke continued with the words, “they did eat” or “the people within Lot's days consumed and devoured food”, “they drank” which means “the people imbibed”, “they bought” or “the people purchased goods and did business”, “they sold” which means “the people bartered and sold items”, “they planted” or “the people set seed out into the earth”, “they builded” which means “the people constructed and erected buildings”. Luke shared how Jesus referred to the normal activities of the people who lived in “Lot's days” who “ate, drank, bought, sold, planted and built”.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn of another group of people who were busy about their daily activities when sudden destruction was near. The people who lived within the “days of Lot” were not unlike the activities done today. They “ate, drank, bought, sold, planted and built” which occurs within our times as well. Jesus will refer to what happened to the people of Sodom in our next verse, however, let all who read these words consider that God Almighty has sent His Son Jesus to be the “Savior of the world”, and although “normal daily activities” occur, there will be a time when “judgment” will suddenly fall and only those who have received Jesus will be “saved”. Let the warnings of Jesus be received by all who read these words, and may they believe and trust in Him before the “sudden destruction” appears and life on earth ends.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
