The beloved physician Luke wrote about Jesus, “as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off. And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go show yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger”, and in chapter seventeen and verse nineteen of his book Luke wrote how Jesus said, “Arise, go your way: your faith has made you whole” where we read:
And he said unto him, Arise, go your way: your faith has made you whole.
The verse reads, “And he said unto him, Arise, go your way:” Luke began with the words, “and he said unto him” or “and Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed to the one man healed of leprosy who returned to Jesus to thank Him”, “Arise” which means “rise and get up”, “go your way” or “leave and depart upon your journey and traveled road”. Luke shared how Jesus instructed the one man to “get up” and go along his Journey.
The verse continues, “your faith has made you whole.” Luke added the words, “your faith” or “the one leprous man's conviction of the truth and belief” “has made you whole” which means “has rescued, saved, made well and restored to health the one leprous man”. Luke shared how Jesus told the leprous man who returned to give Him thanks that His “trust and faith” had “restored” Him completely.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus provided extra for this man who returned to give Him thanks. The others were “cleansed” and this man was “made whole” by his “faith” in Jesus. God loves everyone, and He desires to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus. Those who are wise will not only yield to Him and give Him thanks, but will also enjoy the extra benefits He provides for those who are grateful to Him.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus was, “demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
