The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus said, “Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it. I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left”, and in chapter seventeen and verse thirty-five of his book Luke wrote how Jesus said, “two women shall be grinding together” where we read:
Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
The verse reads, “Two women shall be grinding together;” Luke began with the words, “Two women” or “two female human beings” “shall be grinding together” which means “will be using a mill house to turn the hand mills for grinding grain with each other”. Luke shared how Jesus told of “two women” who would be “grinding” grain with one another and the following would occur.
The verse goes on to say, “the one shall be taken, and the other left.” Luke continued with the words, “the one shall be taken” or “the certain and particular woman will be accepted, not rejected and received”, “and the other left” which means “and the other woman will be sent away, departed, let go and disregarded”. Luke shared how Jesus said one of the women grinding in the mill would be “received and accepted” and the other would be “rejected and let go.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn of another example of a person who will be “received and accepted” versus another person who would be “rejected and let go”. These “two women” would be working together “grinding” at a “mill”, and when the time of Jesus' appearance comes, one of the women will be “received” and the other “rejected”. God's desire is for every person to receive His Son Jesus so they will never need worry whether they will be “received” or not, and those who are wise will carefully consider the idea of one person being “accepted” and the other being “refused”.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “two men shall be in the field” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
