Ten Lepers - Luke 17:12

The beloved physician Luke wrote concerning Jesus, “as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee”, and in chapter seventeen and verse twelve of his book Luke wrote how Jesus met, ten men that were leperswhere we read:

And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:

The verse reads, “And as he entered into a certain village, ... Luke began with the words, “and as he entered” or “and at the time and moment Jesus arose and appeared” “into a certain village” which means “into a particular town, common sleeping place to which laborers in the field return and habitation”. Luke shared how Jesus arose and appeared into another small town or dwelling place.

The verse goes on to say,... there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:Luke continued with the words, “there met him” or “there went to meet Jesus” “ten men that were lepers” which means “ten male human beings who afflicted with the scaly, rough disease called leprosy”, “which stood afar off” or “who were standing, fixed and established from a distance away”. Luke shared as Jesus was journeying “ten leprous men” appeared from a great distance away.

When we mediate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus continued on His journey toward Jerusalem and “ten men” who were filled with “leprosy” appeared to Him from a distance away. Lepers were not allowed to come near people who were not afflicted with the disease, and they were instructed to cover their mouths and shout out “unclean” when anyone approached them. God knows the condition both physically and spiritually of every person, and because “leprosy” was a type for “sin” in the Bible, technically everyone has the disease. Jesus came to die for the “sins” or “leprosy” within mankind, and those who yield their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” receive His forgiveness and healing of their greatest “spiritual” need.

Next time Luke shares how the “ten lepers”, lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on usso read ahead, and we shall join together then.
