The beloved physician Luke wrote about Jesus, “as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off. And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go show yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed”, and in chapter seventeen and verse fifteen of his book Luke wrote how only one leper, “turned back” where we read:
And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,
The verse reads, “And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, ...” Luke began with the words, “and one of them” or “and a single and particular one of the ten men who were afflicted with leprosy”, “when he saw that he was healed” which means “at the time and moment the one leper observed, noticed, discovered and discerned that he was cured and cleansed”, “turned back” or “returned to Jesus”. Luke shared how “one” of the ten men who were lepers returned to Jesus after he noticed that he was cleansed from leprosy.
The verse continues, “... and with a loud voice glorified God,” Luke added the words, “and with a loud voice or “and along with a great, massive and large sound of uttered words and tongue” “glorified God” which means “praised, extolled, magnified, celebrated and honored the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Luke shared how the “one leper who returned to Jesus” began to “shout aloud” and “magnified God Almighty”.
When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how “one” of the ten leprous men who were sent to the priests by Jesus returned to Him after he notice he was clean from leprosy. God loves grateful people, and when they believe and trust in His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they shall be forgiven of their sins and receive the greatest service Jesus provides. Those who are wise will not only accept Jesus, but will be grateful to Him when they are made “clean”.
Next time Luke shares how the one leper, “fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
