The beloved physician Luke wrote about Jesus, “when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God comes not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when you shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and you shall not see it”, and in chapter seventeen and verse twenty-three of his book Luke wrote how Jesus said, “they shall say to you, See here: or, see there: go not after them” where we read:
And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them, nor follow them.
The verse reads, “And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there:” Luke began with the words, “and they shall say to you” or “and people will utter, declare and proclaim to Jesus' disciples and others”, “See here” which means “lo, look and behold in this place”; “or, see there” which refers to “or, lo, look and behold in that place”. Luke shared how Jesus said people will tell His disciples to “look in this place and that” to discover God's Kingdom.
The verse continues, “go not after them, nor follow them.” Luke added the words, “go not after them” or “do not leave or depart with those who tell the disciples to “see here or there”, “nor follow them” which means “and do not pursue those who say “see here or there”. Luke shared how Jesus instructed His disciples not to “pursue” those who attempted to have them “go away” with them.
When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus instructed His disciples not to be lead astray by people who told them to “see here or there” because the Kingdom of God was supposedly in those places. God's Kingdom is not limited to a particular place, and because He made “salvation” available through His Son Jesus to everyone in the world. The “Kingdom of God” is revealed within the believers, and because God loves people, He wants them to “follow” Him. Those who yield to His Son Jesus will find themselves within the Kingdom of God wherever they are.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “as the lightning, that lightens out of the one part under heaven … so shall also the Son of man be” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
