Jesus' Kingdom is Not of This World - John 18:36

John the apostle wrote how the high priests and officers led, Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover. Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring you against this man? They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto you. Then said Pilate unto them, Take you him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death. That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spoke, signifying what death he should die. Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Are you the King of the Jews? Jesus answered him, Say you this thing of yourself, or did others tell you of me? Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered you unto me: what have you done?”, and in chapter eighteen and verse thirty-six of his book John shared how Jesus told Pilate, “My kingdom is not of this world” where we read:

Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from here.

The verse reads,Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: John began with the words, “Jesus answered” which means the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation responded and began to speak by saying”, “My kingdom” or “my, Jesus', royal power, kingship, dominion and rule” “is not of this world” which means “does not exist within this particular circle of the earth with it's inhabitants”. John shared how Jesus responded to “Pilate” by telling Him that His “kingship and rule” did not exist within the earth.

The verse goes on to say, “if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from here.” John continued with the words, “if my kingdom” or “whether and in case my, Jesus', royal power, kingship, dominion and rule” “were of this world” which means “existed within this particular circle of the earth and it's inhabitants”, “then would my servants fight” or “at this time would my, Jesus', slaves, men of servile condition and bondmen labor fervently, contend, struggle and strive with difficulties and dangers”, “that I should not be delivered” which means “so I, Jesus, would in no case be given into the hands, take care of, manage or be committed” “to the Jews” or “toward the people of the Jewish nation by origin, birth or religion”. “But now” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover at this time and moment” “is my kingdom not from here” or “exists my, Jesus', royal power, kingship, dominion and rule” in no way from here, the earth”. John shared how Jesus told “Pilate” “if” His “royal power and rule” was within the earth, the people who “served” Him would “fervently contend” against the “Jews” who arrested Him, however, Jesus said His “royal power and rule” was not from the earth.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus declared that His “Kingdom” was not “of” the earth because if it was, His “servants” would have “fought” for Him not to be “delivered” to the Jewish people. He affirmed that His “royal power and rule” was not in the earth, and those who study the life of Jesus will know He came from “Heaven” and made His appearance on the earth to be the “Savior and Lord” of mankind. Everyone who yields their life to Him will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God. One day every person who surrenders their life to Jesus will be with Jesus in His “Kingdom” and regardless of it's location, being with Jesus will be life everlasting and eternal for all who believe in Him.

Next time we see John shares how Pilate asks Jesus, “Are you a king then?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
