John the apostle wrote how a, “band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him, and led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year. Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people”, and in chapter eighteen and verse fifteen of his book John shared how “Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple” said where we read:
And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple:
that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.
The verse reads, “And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple:” John began with the words, “and Simon Peter” which means “and Simon whose name means a little stone Peter which means a little rock or stone” “followed Jesus” or “joined with and accompanied the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation”, “and so did another disciple” which means “and also and indeed followed one other student, pupil and attendant”. John shared how Jesus' disciple “Simon Peter” joined Jesus with one other disciple (who was actually John Himself).
The verse continues, “that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.” John added the words, “that disciple was known” or “the student, pupil or attendant that joined Jesus alongside Simon Peter was well-known or an acquaintance” “unto the high priest” which means “to the chief and principle priest”, “and went in with Jesus” or “and entered and accompanied the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “into the palace” which means “unto the courtyard” “of the high priest” or “which belonged to the chief and principle priest”. John shared how the “disciple” who joined together with “Simon Peter” to “follow” Jesus knew the “high priest” and was able to “enter” the courtyard where Jesus was taken.
When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how two of Jesus' disciples, “Simon Peter” and “the other disciple (John), “followed” Jesus. “John” was acquainted with the “high priest”, so he was able to enter the courtyard where Jesus was taken. All these things happened because Jesus was making His way toward His crucifixion for the sins of mankind, and Jesus' two disciples were allowed to watch some of the events. God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus. Those who yield their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God. Let all who read these words “follow” Jesus and discover what He did for the benefit of mankind.
Next time we see John shares how, “Peter stood at the door without”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
