In Psalms chapter forty five David said, “My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer. You are fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into your lips: therefore God has blessed you for ever”, and in chapter forty five and verse three of Psalms David said, “Gird your sword upon your thigh, O most mighty” where we read,
Gird your sword upon your thigh, O most mighty, with your glory and your majesty.
The verse begins, “Gird your sword upon your thigh, O most mighty, ...” David began with the words, “Gird your sword” or “appoint and put on your, Jehovah God's, knife, axe, dagger, mattock or other sharp implement” “upon your thigh” which means “on your, Jehovah God's, outside of the thigh of the leg”, “O most mighty” or “O strong and powerful warrior, champion and chief”. David appealed to the mighty and powerful warrior and champion Jehovah God to strap on His sharp instrument used for battle.
The verse goes on to say, “... with your glory and your majesty.” David continued with the words, “with your glory” or “by the use of your, Jehovah God's, splendor, majesty and vigor” “and your majesty” which means “and your, Jehovah God's, honor, glory, beauty and excellence”. David beckoned Jehovah God to use His majesty, vigor, beauty and excellence in preparation for war.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David wanted Jehovah God to defend him in battle. He knew God could strap on His “sword”, and because He was the most powerful warrior, He could apply His splendor, excellence and beauty to defeat any enemy who arose against him. God desires to be the provider and protector of every person who believes and trusts in His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Jesus came to the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and anyone who yields to Him will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God. When times of battle arise, let us employ the mighty champion Jesus Christ and allow Him to fight our battles for us.
Next time David says, “in your majesty ride prosperously”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
