In Psalms chapter forty four David said, “for your sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter. Awake, why do you sleep, O Lord? arise, cast us not off for ever”, and in chapter forty four and verse twenty-four of Psalms David asked Jehovah God, “Wherefore hide you your face?” where we read,
Wherefore hide you your face, and forget our affliction and our oppression?
The verse begins, “Wherefore hide you your face, ...” David began with the words, “wherefore hide you” or “for what reason and purpose do you, Jehovah God, conceal, close and keep secret” “your face” which means “your, Jehovah God's, forefront and presence”? David asked Jehovah God why He concealed His presence and countenance from him.
The verse continues, “... and forget our affliction and our oppression?” David added the words, “and forget our affliction” or “and ignore, cease to care and mislay from want of memory or attention to our, David and his fellow believers', poverty, misery and trouble” “and our oppression” which means “and our, David and his fellow believers', distress and pressure”? David asked Jehovah God for the reason that He ignored and cease to care for he and his fellow believers misery and distress.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David felt like Jehovah God not only concealed His countenance from him and his companions, but also was as though He did not care that they were in misery, trouble and distress. Of course, David's thoughts were not accurate, but he felt this way. When it appears that God has “hidden” from us or has ceased to care that we are miserable and distressed, we should always remember the cross. Jesus came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit to lead and guide us regardless of circumstances or situations. God loves us, and He sees us at all times, and we may give Him praise, honor and glory regardless of whether we “feel” like He has “hidden his face” or ignores our “affliction and oppression”.
Next time David says, “our soul is bowed down to the dust”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
