In Psalms chapter forty four David said, “In God we boast all the day long, and praise your name for ever. Selah. But you have cast off, and put us to shame; and go not forth with our armies”, and in chapter forty four and verse ten of Psalms David said, “you make us turn back from the enemy” where we read,
You make us to turn back from the enemy: and they which hate us spoil for themselves.
The verse begins, “You make us to turn back from the enemy:” David began with the words, “you make us to turn back” or “you, Jehovah God, cause us, David and his believing companions, to return, go backward and proceed to the hinder part” “from the enemy” which means “apart and separate from the hating foe and adversary”. David said Jehovah God caused he and his fellow believers to retreat from their hating adversaries.
The verse continues, “and they which hate us spoil for themselves.” David added the words, “and they which hate us” or “and the people who are enemies and odious to us, David and his believing companions” “spoil for themselves” which means “plunder, rob and destroy their own selves”. David said the people who were odious and hateful to him and his believing companions plunder and rob them for their own gain.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David felt that Jehovah God caused he and his fellow believers to retreat from their hating foes as they plundered and robbed them. Sometimes we feel like God has abandoned us and our enemies are winning and taking gain from us, but let us remember, God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and continue to be with us even when these times come. Even in the midst of our troubles, let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God who desires to be present with us even when hating foes plunder our things for themselves.
Next time David says, “you have given us like sheep appointed for meat”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
