In Psalms chapter forty five David said, “Kings' daughters were among your honorable women: upon your right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir”, and in chapter forty five and verse ten of Psalms David said, “Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline your ear” where we read,
Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline your ear;
forget also your own people, and your father's house;
The verse begins, “Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline your ear;” David began with the words, “Hearken, O daughter” or “listen, give attention to and take heed, O female offspring and prodigy”, “and consider” which means “and see, look at, inspect and perceive”, “and incline your ear” or “and stretch out, extend, spread out and bend your, daughter's, physical organ used to receive, reveal and hear”. David appealed to the “daughter” who is thought to be the bride in this regal wedding, and the exhortation was for her to inspect, perceive and bend her ear down to pay particular attention to that which he next proclaims.
The verse continues, “forget also your own people, and your father's house;” David added the words, “forget also” or “cease to care, ignore and mislay from want of memory or attention even so and indeed” “your own people” which means “your, the daughter's, nation, members, compatriots, countrymen and kindred”, “and your father's house” or “and your, the daughter's, dwelling, habitation, shelter and abode belonging to her immediate male ancestor and progenitor”. David instructed the “daughter” to cease from caring for her nation, kindred and habitation of her father.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David focused upon the “daughter” or “bride” in this regal wedding. She was to listen to him as he instructed her to leave behind her former companions and the dwelling place of her father. Jesus the Messiah also has a “bride” called the church, and anyone who believes and trusts in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and become the “bride of Christ”. (See Ephesians 5 and Revelation 22). God loves people, and even as a “bride” is prepared for the groom in a wedding, He desires to have every one who surrenders to Him enjoy being married to Him for all eternity.
Next time David says, “so shall the king greatly desire your beauty”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
