In Psalms chapter forty David said, “Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me: O LORD, make haste to help me”, and in chapter forty and verse fourteen of Psalms David said, “Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to destroy it” where we read:
Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to destroy it;
let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil.
The verse begins, “Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to destroy it;” David began with the words, “Let them be ashamed” or “allow and permit the people whether male or female exist as put to shame, disconcerted and disappointed” “and confounded together” which means “and abashed or embarrassed unitedly and all at once” “that seek after my soul” or “who require, desire, exact and request my, David's, inner man, self, mind, soul, emotions and passion” “to destroy it” which means “to sweep away, catch up and consume David's soul”. David appealed to Jehovah God to allow the people who sought to consume his soul to be abashed and embarrassed all at one time.
The verse continues, “let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil.” David added the words, “let them be driven backward” or “allow and permit the people to go back, move away, backslide and prove recreant” “and put to shame” which means “and be exhibited as insulted, humiliated, dishonored and confounded” “that wish me evil” or “who desire, delight and have pleasure in me, David, receiving bad, disagreeableness, that which is displeasing and malignancy”. David beckoned Jehovah God to move away the people who desire bad and wickedness upon him and to allow them to be dishonored and humiliated.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David turned the people who opposed him over to Jehovah God. David desired for them to be embarrassed by their actions and activity, and he wanted Jehovah God to move away and humiliate the people who had pleasure in him receiving bad things. David modeled what we are to do with people who “hate” us or treat us maliciously. David had a personal relationship with Jehovah God, and God desires this type of relationship with everyone. He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins, raised Him from the dead three days later, and offers salvation, forgiveness and eternal life to everyone who relies upon, clings to and trusts in Him. God's invitation is to receive His Son Jesus, and when we do, we can turn our opposing foes over to Him to embarrass and humiliate according to His perfect will. (See Romans 12:19)
Next time David says, “Let them be desolate for a reward of their shame”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
