In Psalms chapter forty one David said, “All that hate me whisper together against me: against me do they devise my hurt”, and in chapter forty one and verse eight of Psalms David said, “an evil disease, say they, cleaves fast unto him” where we read,
An evil disease, say they, cleaves fast unto him: and now that he lies he shall rise up no more.
The verse begins, “An evil disease, say they, cleaves fast unto him:” David began with the words, “and evil disease” or “a worthless, good for nothing, unprofitable and ruinous speech, word, utterance, manner and matter”, “say they” which means “utter, declare and proclaim the hating foes of David”, “cleaves fast unto him” or “pours forth, stiffens and grows hard to him, David”. David said the enemies who hated him proclaimed that he had an unprofitable and ruinous matter that clung to him.
The verse goes on to say, “and now that he lies he shall rise up no more.” David continued with the words, “and now that he lies” or “and at this time since he, David, takes rest, sleeps and stays down” “he shall rise up no more” which means “he, David, will arise, stand and come on the scene never again”. David said because his sickness made him have to lie down and rest, his enemies believed he would never rise up again.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David's enemies were rejoicing in his suffering, and they wanted it to destroy him and cause him to never stand again. Many people experience the ill-will of people who hate them. Jesus did, however Jesus came to the earth and was crucified for the sins of the world, and when we submit ourselves to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and be with us even when others wish for our demise. We may rely upon, cling to and trust in Jesus because He can relate to us and is willing to save all who come to Him.
Next time David says, “my own familiar friend … has lifted up his heel against me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
