God's Name Forgotten - Psalms 44:20

In Psalms chapter forty four David said, “Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from your way. Though you have sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death”, and in chapter forty four and verse twenty of Psalms David begins to say what will happen, “If we have forgotten the name of our God” where we read,

If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god;

The verse begins, If we have forgotten the name of our God, ... David began with the words, “if we have forgotten the name” or “whether or in case we, David and His companions, ignored, ceased to care, mislay and were oblivious from want of memory or attention to the reputation, fame and glory” “of our God” which means “belonging to our, David and his believing companion's, Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”. David presented the idea of he and his companions ignoring or ceasing to care for Jehovah God's reputation, fame and glory.

The verse continues, “... or stretched out our hands to a strange god;” David added the words, “or stretched out our hands” or “or spread out, lay open and dispersed our, David and his believing companions', physical palms of the hands” “to a strange god” which means “toward a foreign, loathsome and alien false idol, power or deity” the following would occur. David continued his idea of he and his fellow companions reaching out their palms toward a false deity or power.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David took an opposite extreme to he and his fellow believers trusting in and obeying Jehovah God. He presented the idea of he and his companions “ceasing to remember” “Jehovah God's” reputation, fame and glory or worshiping a false god. David will share what would happen should they follow this way, but we may know David was never going to worship any other God than Jehovah God Himself. This is the way God likes it. The first commandment given to Moses was, “You shall have no other gods before me” (See Genesis 20:3), and we are not to give praise, honor or glory to any other object or god. God loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. When we believe and trust in Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and guide us by His Holy Spirit. God's law was meant for our good, and when we have no other gods in our lives but Him, we will be blessed and be pleasing in His eyes.

Next time David asks,shall not God search this out?, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
