In Psalms chapter forty David said, “Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me: O LORD, make haste to help me. Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil”, and in chapter forty and verse fifteen of Psalms David said, “Let them be desolate for a reward of their shame” where we read,
Let them be desolate for a reward of their shame that say unto me, Aha, aha.
The verse begins, “Let them be desolate for a reward of their shame ...” David began with the words, “Let them be desolate” or “allow and permit the people who seek after David's soul exist as appalled, stunned and stupefied” “for a reward” which means “as a consequence, result and compensation” “of their shame” or “pertaining to the great confusion and shameful condition of the people who seek after David's soul”. David wanted Jehovah God to allow those who opposed him to be stupefied and in great confusion.
The verse goes on to say, “... that say unto me, Aha, aha.” David continued with the words, “that say unto me” or “who utter, declare and proclaim to me, David”, “Aha, aha” which means “ha ha over the misfortune of David whom they considered their enemy”. David referred to the speech of those who opposed him as they taunted him because of his misfortune.
When we meditate upon words in this verse, we learn how David appealed to Jehovah God to take vengeance upon his enemies. He wanted God to cause them to be stunned and appalled because of their confusion and “shame” which was manifested by their mocking him with the words, “aha, aha”. Unrighteous people often love to make fun of people who are following Jehovah God and His Son Jesus. They look for opportunities to see them fail, fall or make mistakes, and they often mock them with their words and verbal sounds. God is watching them, and when we encounter opposition such as this, we must rely upon the fact that God loves us so much that He sent His Son Jesus to die for our sins. We should remember that people “mocked” Jesus too, (See Matthew 27:29, 31; Mark 15:20; Luke 18:32, 22:63, 23:11, 23:36) and He forgives us and grants us everlasting life with Him when we surrender to Him. Because of this, we shall live forever giving Him praise for His mercy and grace, and He shall contend with those who make fun of those who follow Him.
Next time David says, “Let all those that seek you rejoice and be glad in you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
