Killed All the Day Long - Psalms 44:22

In Psalms chapter forty four David said, “Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from your way. Though you have sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death. If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god. Shall not God search this out? for he knows the secrets of the heart”, and in chapter forty four and verse twenty-two of Psalms David said, “for your sake are we killed all the day long?” where we read,

Yes, for your sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.

The verse begins, Yes, for your sake are we killed all the day long; David began with the words, “Yes, for your sake” or “even so and indeed, because, since and on account of your, Jehovah God's, account, behalf and regard” “are we killed” which means “are we, David and his believing companions, slain, murdered, destroyed and ruined” “all the day long” or “each, every and the whole division of time or period”. David declared himself and his fellow believers to be destroyed and ruined throughout every day.

The verse continues,we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.” David added the words, “we are counted” or “we, David and his fellow companions, are thought, imagined, accounted, valued and regarded” “as sheep for the slaughter” which means “like small grazing animals such as sheep which are brutally put to death”. David said he and his believing companions were valued and regard like “sheep” that are brutally put to death.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how David felt about he and his companions position before Jehovah God. Paul the apostle quoted this verse in Romans chapter eight and verse thirty six, “As it is written, For your sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter” as he asked the question, “who shall separate us from the love of Christ?” (See Romans 8:35). God loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe in, rely upon and cling to Him, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life with Him. Although we may feel like we are “killed all the day long” and “counted as sheep for the slaughter”, Jesus already walked through those things before us, and we shall praise Him for all eternity for identifying with us in these times.

Next time David says,Awake, why do you sleep, O Lord?, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
