In Psalms chapter forty two David said, “As the hart pants after the water brooks, so pants my soul after you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is your God?”, and in chapter forty two and verse four of Psalms David said, “when I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me” where we read,
When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holy day.
The verse begins, “When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me:” David began with the words, “When I remember these things” or “at the time and moment I, David, call, recall and bring to mind the desperation he had for God, his tears day and night and the taunting of his hating adversaries”, “I pour out my soul” which means “I, David, spill, shed, expend and intensively sprawl out my, David's, inner man, mind, will, desire, emotions, passions and appetites” “in me” or “within me, David”. David said he intensively expended his mind and heart as he recalled his sorrow, desperation and the taunting of his foes.
The verse continues, “ for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holy day.” David added the words, “for I had gone” or “”because, since and on account that I, David, passed, crossed and marched over “with the multitude” which means “alongside and beside the throng, thicket and crowd of men”, “I went with them” or “I, David, left and departed alongside the multitude” “to the house of God” which means “toward the dwelling, habitation, shelter and abode belonging to the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”, “with the voice of joy and praise” or “along with the noise, sound, bleating and proclamation pertaining to a ringing cry, entreaty, supplication, gladness, rejoicing and shouting”, “with a multitude” which means “alongside and beside a throng, thicket and crowd of men” “that kept holy day” or “who celebrated, held a festival, danced and made pilgrimage toward a pilgrim feast and sacred procession”. David shared how he went with the crowd of people to Jehovah God's dwelling place as they used their voices to proclaim gladness, rejoicing and a ringing cry as they observed the “holy” festival or feast.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David responded to his time of sorrow and lament over his conditions and the taunting of those wondering where his God was. He “poured out” his “soul” to God, joined a multitude of worshipers in God's house who were there to hold a festival of praise and worship to God. In other words, David joined fellow believers who were worshiping Jehovah God. Sometimes the best thing we can do when we are troubled to tears and taunted with doubt is to join others in the church and give praise to God. God loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and lead us to give him worship and praise with fellow believers. When we're in a difficult time, we should be motivated to go to church, join the crowd and offer up praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus Christ, and we will find relief and help for our souls.
Next time David asks himself, “why are you cast down, O my soul?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
