In Psalms chapter forty four David said, “We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work you did in their days, in the times of old. How you did drive out the heathen with your hand, and planted them; how you did afflict the people, and cast them out”, and in chapter forty four and verse three of Psalms David said, “they got not the land in possession by their own sword” where we read,
For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but your right hand, and your arm, and the light of your countenance, because you had a favor unto them.
The verse begins, “For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them:” David began with the words, “For they got not the land in possession” or “because, since and on account that they, the forefathers of David, did not seize, dispossess, occupy and inherit the country, territory, district and region” “by their own sword” which means “through the use of their, the forefathers of David's, own personal cutting instrument, mattock or knife of power, strength and might”, “neither did their own arm” or “no and not in any way did their, the forefathers of David's, own personal forearm, shoulder, strength and force” “save them” which means “rescue, deliver and liberate them, the forefathers of David”. David said his forefathers did not seize their territory through the use of their own “sword” of power and strength nor their own shoulder of force.
The verse goes on to say, “but your right hand, and your arm, and the light of your countenance, because you had a favor unto them.” David continued with the words, “but your right hand” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover your, Jehovah God's, right hand of authority, power, strength and might”, “and your arm” which means “and your, Jehovah God's, forearm, shoulder, strength and force”, “and the light of your countenance” or “and the illumination belonging to your, Jehovah God's, face, front and presence”, “because you had a favor unto them” which means “since and on account that you, Jehovah God, made acceptable and brought pleasing satisfaction toward them, the forefathers of David”. David said it was Jehovah God's power, might, illumination and pleasing satisfaction that gave his forefathers their territory.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David gave credit to Jehovah God for the territory his forefathers gained upon earth. God gives to people, and because everything belongs to Him, (See Psalm 24:1) He can give and remove it any time He desires. God wants a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus. He sent Jesus to the earth to die for the sins of all mankind. When we receive Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life with Him. God's hand provides. God's hand protects, and God's hand saves, and we are wise when we surrender our lives to Him and His Son Jesus to be rescued, protected and provided for throughout all eternity.
Next time David says, “you are my king, O God”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
