Four Angels on the Earth's Four Quarters Revelation 7:1

After the worship scene in heaven where “the Lamb” of God received the “scroll” in God's right hand, the beginning of the tribulation to come upon the earth began and John the apostle saw the first, second, third, fourth, fifth and the sixth seals opened, and he wrote, “there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casts her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?”, and in chapter seven and verse one of Revelation John shared how John “saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth” where we read:

And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.

The verse reads, And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, ...John began with the words, “and after these things” which means “following the things where God's wrath was poured out upon the earth through the opening of the six seals” “I saw” which means “John perceived, noticed, discerned and discovered” “four angels” or “four spiritual messengers and envoys of God” “standing” which means “put in place, set, made firm and established” “on the four corners” or “upon the four external angles, secret places or quarters” “of the earth” which refers to “the arable land, country, territory and region”. After the beginning of the tribulation period upon the earth was begun, this new “stand” by “four” of God's “angels” began in the four quadrants “of the earth”.

The verse continues, “... holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.” John added the word, “holding” which means “having master over, being chief of, ruling over and taking seize of” “the four winds” or “the four violent agitation and streams of air” “of the earth” which refers to “the arable land, country, territory and region”, “that the wind” or “so the violent agitation and streams of air” “should not blow” which means “would not be able to create a hard breath or breeze” “on the earth” or “upon the arable land, country, territory or region”, “nor on the sea” which means “and not upon the large bodies of waters such as seas, oceans and lakes”, “nor on any tree” which refers to “and not upon a single tree”. John saw how these “four angels” “seized” the “winds” from all directions, and they would not blow upon “the earth, sea or trees”.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we see how every quadrant of the earth was controlled by these “four messengers” of God. The “North, South, East and West” winds were “stopped” by these “angels”, and this would halt the water cycle, clouds and movement of the rain. This action precipitated by God would affect every person living upon the earth, and no one would be able to escape the harm it would begin to inflict. God desires to “save” people from these things through His Son Jesus Christ, and by receiving Him as a personal “Savior and Lord” escape from this judgment may be obtained. Let all who read these words “take heed” and turn to the Lord Jesus before the “winds” no longer blow.

Next time we John sees, “another angel ascending from the east”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
