Men Hiding in Dens and Rocks Revelation 6:15

After the worship scene in heaven where “the Lamb” of God received the “scroll” in God's right hand, the beginning of the tribulation to come upon the earth began and John the apostle saw the first, second, third, fourth, fifth and the sixth seals opened, and he wrote, “and I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casts her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places”, and in chapter six and verse fifteen of Revelation John saw when men “hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the men” where we read:

And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;

The verse reads, And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, ...John began with the words, “and the kings” which means “and the leaders, princes, commanders and lords of the land” “of the earth” which means “pertaining to the arable land, country, territory and region”, “and the great men” or “and the grandees, magnates, nobles and chief men”, “and the rich men” which means “and the wealthy, abounding in material resources, abounding and abundantly supplied”, “and the chief captains” or “the chiliarch and commander of a thousand soldiers”, “and the mighty men” which refers to “the powerful and strong in wealth and influence”. John shared how the “kings, great men, chief captains and mighty men” shall be involved in that which he is about to declare.

The verse continues, “... and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;” John added the word, “and every bondman” which means “and each, all, the whole and everyone of the servants, slaves and men of servile condition”, “and every free man” or “and each, all, the whole and everyone of the men who are freeborn, exempt, unrestrained and not bound by an obligation”, “hid themselves” or “concealed, escaped and kept their own selves” “in the dens” which means “in caves, caverns and hiding places or resorts” “and in the rocks” or “the crags and large stones” “of the mountains” which refers to “the hills or lands which are lifted above the plain”. John saw “servants” and “freeborn” men “conceal themselves” in “caves” and “mountainous rocky crags”.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we see how the destruction set forth upon the earth and within the sky shall cause people to “conceal” themselves in “caves” and “rocky crags” in the mountainous areas. The “great, rich, mighty, chief, bound and free men” all shall seek protection in the cavernous areas. We can imagine the horror that will be upon them because of the cataclysmic events occurring around them. God desires to “save” people from this “tribulation” period upon the earth, and those who yield their lives to His Son Jesus Christ before these events occur shall have no need to run and hide. May all who read these words “take heed” and be mindful of the “terror” that shall be in the hearts of men who have not accepted Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”.

Next time John shares about, “said to the mountains and rocks, fall on us, and hide us” and more, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
