The Great Day of God's Wrath Revelation 6:17

After the worship scene in heaven where “the Lamb” of God received the “scroll” in God's right hand, the beginning of the tribulation to come upon the earth began and John the apostle saw the first, second, third, fourth, fifth and the sixth seal opened, and he wrote, “there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casts her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb”, and in chapter six and verse seventeen of Revelation John shared how the people hiding declared “the great day of his wrath is come” where we read:

For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

The verse reads, For the great day of his wrath is come;John began with the word, “for” which means “because and since” “the great day” which means “the time period which is on a grand scale and intense” “of his wrath” or “pertaining to God's anger, vengeance, disposition and indignation” “is come” which means “has arisen, appeared and is established and become known”. The people who were “hiding in the mountains and rocks” proclaimed that God's “day of indignation” had “come”.

The verse goes on to say, “and who shall be able to stand?” John added the words, “and who shall be able” which means “and what person whether male or female is capable and has the power, resources, state of mind, favorable circumstances or custom” “to stand” or “to be made firm, be established and set in place”? The men “hiding” questioned rhetorically whether anyone could make a “stand” against God.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we see how the people “hiding” in the “mountains and rocks” understood the “tribulation period” they were encountering was the result of God's “anger” being poured out upon the earth. No one will be able to “stand” against God's “indignation”, and the attempt to “hide” from Him will be futile. God desires to “save” everyone from this horrendous time, and He does so through belief and trust in His Son Jesus Christ. Let all who read these words receive the “salvation” offered by God before they personally know the inability to “stand” against the fierce “anger” of Almighty God.

Next time we begin a new chapter and John shares about, “Four Angels on the Earth's Four Quarters” and more, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
