The Sixth Seal and an Earthquake Revelation 6:12

After the worship scene in heaven where “the Lamb” of God received the “scroll” in God's right hand, the beginning of the tribulation to come upon the earth began and John the apostle saw the first, second, third, fourth and fifth seals opened, and he wrote, “when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, do you not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellow-servants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled”, and in chapter six and verse twelve of Revelation John “beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and lo, there was a great earthquake” where we read:

And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;

The verse reads, “And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake;” John began with the words, “and I beheld” which means “and John saw, perceived, noticed, discerned and discovered” “when he had opened” which means “at the time and moment Jesus unfastened and loosed” “the sixth seal” or “the sixth signet seat upon the scroll”, “and lo” which means “and behold and see”, “there was a great earthquake” which refers to “there was a massive, large and abundant tempest and seismic shaking of the ground and earth”. When Jesus “unfastened” the “sixth signet seal upon the scroll” He received from God's hand, a “massive” quaking of the earth occurred.

The verse goes on to say, “and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;” John continued with the words, “and the sun” which means “and the solar light of the day” “became black” or “appeared dark like black ink”“as sackcloth” or “as a receptacle for holding or carrying various things such as money or food” “of hair” which means “which was made of hair”, “and the moon” or “and the lunar light of the night” “became as blood” or “appeared like bloodshed through violence, slaying or murder”. John saw the colors of the “sun” and “moon” affected by the “massive earthquake” upon the earth.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we see how the “loosing” of this “sixth seal” affected the environment upon the earth and sky. Not only was the ground quaking from this massive tectonic movement, but the lights of the sky were discolored by it as well. The earth is suffering from the rejection of God's Son Jesus Christ as “Savior and Lord”, and even God's creation is “crying out” because of it. Today is the day of “salvation” before these things come upon the earth, and those who receive Jesus shall avoid all of these traumatic events. Let all who read these words “take heed” before the earth and the sky break loose and demonstrate the power of Almighty God.
