Power in Their Mouths and Tails Revelation 9:19

As John the apostle continued to share about the “tribulation” that was to come upon the earth, he shared concerning the first six seals Jesus removed from the “scroll” in God's right hand. He began to write about what happened when Jesus, “had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour. And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets … And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound. The first, second, third, fourth and fifth angels” blew their trumpets, and great judgment fell upon the earth. John added, “And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates, and the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men. And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them. And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone. By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths” In chapter nine and verse nineteen of Revelation John shared “power is in their mouth, and in their tails” where we read:

For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails:
for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt.
The verse reads, For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: John began with the words, “for their power” which means “because the horsemen's ability, strength and authority” “is in their mouth” or “is within the horsemen's orifice of the face used for speaking and language”, “and in their tails” which refers to “and the horsemen's tails”. John recognized the “ability and strength” of the “horsemen” was in their “mouths and tails”.

The verse goes on to say, “for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt. John added the word, “for” which means “because and since” “their tails” or “the horsemen's tails” “were like” which means “resembled, were similar to, corresponding and as” “unto serpents” or “snakes”, “and had heads” which means “and owned and possessed heads like snakes”, “and with them” or “and with their snake-like heads” “they do hurt” which means “the horsemen harm, damage and do wrong”. John saw how these “horsemen” had “tails and heads” like snakes which did “damage and harm” to one third of the people on the earth.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we see more of the attributes of these “two hundred million horsemen”. They were equipped with “serpent-like heads and tails” which “damaged” the people inflicted by them, however, God desires to “save” people through a relationship with His Son Jesus Christ from their pain. By receiving Jesus Christ as a personal “Savior and Lord” “salvation” and “everlasting life” are obtained, and escape from the “serpent-like” “power” shall be avoided. May all who read these words take heed and accept Jesus as “Savior” today.

Next time John shares how people, “yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
