After
the worship scene in heaven where “the
Lamb”
of God received the “scroll” in God's right hand, the beginning
of the tribulation to come upon the earth began and John the apostle
saw the first, second, third, fourth, fifth and the sixth seals
opened, and he wrote, “and
I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a
great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and
the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the
earth, even as a fig tree casts her untimely figs, when she is shaken
of a mighty wind.”,
and in chapter six and verse fourteen of Revelation John saw “the
heaven departed as a scroll” where
we read:
And
the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together;
and
every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
The
verse reads, “And
the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together;”
John
began with the words, “and
the heaven”
which means “the aerial heavens or sky and the region where the
clouds and the tempests gather and where thunder and lightning are
produced” “departed”
which
means “separated, part asunder and rent apart” “as
a scroll” or
“a small book, written document or sheet on which something has
been written” “when”
which means “at the time and moment” “it
is rolled together”
or “the scroll is coiled or wrapped up”. John saw the “aerial
sky separate like a scroll when it is uncoiled”.
The
verse continues, “and
every mountain and island were moved out of their places.” John
added the words, “and
every mountain”
which means “and each, all, the whole and everyone of the hills or
lands which are lifted above the plain” “and
island”
or “an isle or floating land”“were
moved out of”
which means “were set in motion and removed from” “their
places”
or “the island's portion or space marked off”. John saw “each
and every mountain
and island”
“set in motion and removed” from their stationed “space”.
When
we consider John's words in this verse, we see more of the
cataclysmic effects upon the earth and sky when the “sixth seal”
of the “scroll” is loosened by Jesus. The “heaven”
separates, and the “mountains and islands” move from their normal
positions. God is at work in the earth and sky, and because He
created everything, there is nothing He cannot affect. God desires to
save people from this awful devastation through a relationship with
His Son Jesus Christ, and those who receive Him as their personal
“Savior and Lord” shall escape these things. Let all who read
these words know this, “now is the day of salvation”. (2
Corinthians 6:2).
