A Large Upper Room - Mark 14:15

Mark wrote, “And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where will you that we go and prepare that you may eat the passover? And he sent forth two of his disciples, and said unto them, Go you into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him. And wheresoever he shall go in, say you to the goodman of the house, The Master said, Where is the guest-chamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?”, and in chapter fourteen and verse fifteen of his book, Mark shared how Jesus tells His disciples, “he will show you a large upper room furnished” where we read:

And he will show you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us.

The verse reads, “And he will show you a large upper room furnished and prepared:” Mark began with the words, “and he will show you” which means “and the householder of the dwelling will expose to Jesus' two disciples” “a large upper room furnished” which means “a massive, spacious and commodious room in the upper part of a house” “furnished and prepared” or “spread with couches or divans and made ready”. Mark shared how the “householder” would “show” Jesus' disciples a huge room located in the “upper” part of the house that was already “spread with couches and ready”.

The verse continues, “there make ready for us. Mark added the words, “there make ready” which means “in that upper room location prepare and provide” “for us” or “for Jesus and the other disciples”. Mark shared how Jesus told His “two disciples” to “prepare” the “upper room” so He and His all His disciples could eat the “passover meal” there.

When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we discover Jesus' further instructions to His “two disciples”. Not only were they to discover and follow the man carrying the pitcher of water, inquire of the householder of the dwelling to which the man lead them, but they were to enter the large, furnished and prepared “upper room” and “make ready” the “passover meal”. Each of these actions were part of God's plan to offer His Son Jesus as a “sacrificial lamb” for the sins of mankind, and everyone who believes and trusts in Him will receive “everlasting life” with God. Those who are wise will consider each of these events and know God the Father has gone to great lengths so they may live with Him forever.

Next time Mark shares how “his disciples went forth … and found as he had said”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
