Hated by All and Enduring - Mark 13:13

Mark wrote how Jesus toward the end of the age, “brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death”, and in chapter thirteen and verse thirteen of his book, Mark shared how Jesus said, “you shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved” where we read:

And you shall be hated of all men for my name's sake:

but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

The verse reads, “And you shall be hated of all men for my name's sake:” Mark began with the words, “and you shall be hated” or “and Jesus' disciples will be detested and pursued with hatred” “of all men” which means “by each, every, the whole and everyone of the people both male and female ” “for my name's sake” or “because, since and on account of everything which Jesus' name covers; everything the thought or feeling of which is aroused in the mind by mentioning, hearing and remembering cause and reason”. Mark shared how Jesus said people everywhere would “hate” His disciples because they followed Him and His “gospel”.

The verse continues, “but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. Mark added the words, “but he” which means “however, nevertheless, nonetheless, notwithstanding, moreover and the follower of Jesus” “that shall endure to the end” or “who will remain, abide and persevere to the finish, termination, close and completion”, “the same” which means “that same follower of Jesus” “shall be saved” or “will be kept safe, rescued, made well, restored and preserved”. Mark shared how Jesus assured His disciples that those who “remain and abide” with Him to the completion of all things would be “rescued and kept safe” by Him.

When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus told His disciples people would react to them being associated with Him. They would “hate” Jesus followers, and because they believe the teachings and “gospel” of Jesus Christ, everyone will “detest them”. God knew this in advance, and His plan was to “save” people from their “sins” so they might live with Him “eternally”. Though people may “hate” them, God will preserve them “forever and evermore”.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus talks about, “the abomination of desolation”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
