Where Do We Eat the Passover? - Mark 14:12

Mark wrote how, “Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them. And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him”, and in chapter fourteen and verse twelve of his book, Mark shared how Jesus' disciples asked Him, “Where will you that we go and prepare that you may eat the passover?” where we read:

And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where will you that we go and prepare that you may eat the passover?

The verse reads, “And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, ...” Mark began with the words, “and the first day of unleavened bread” which means “and the chief and principal sunrise to sunset pertaining to unfermented, free from leaven or yeast loaves of bread”, “when they killed” which means “at the time and moment people sacrificed, immolated, slayed and slaughtered” “the passover” or “the paschal sacrificial lamb”, “his disciples” which means “Jesus' students, pupils and attendants” “said unto him” or “uttered, declared and proclaimed to Jesus”. Mark shared how Jesus' disciples asked Him the following question when it was time for the “passover” meal to be eaten which included the “slaughtering” of the “paschal lamb” as well as having “unleavened bread” to eat.

The verse continues, “Where will you that we go and prepare that you may eat the passover? Mark added the words, “where will you” which means “at what place and location do you desire and want” “that we go and prepare” or “for us to depart and leave to make and get everything ready” “that you may eat” which means “so Jesus may consume and devour” “the passover” which refers to “the paschal sacrifice which was a lamb”. Mark shared how Jesus' disciples wanted to know the location Jesus wanted to observe the “passover meal” so they could depart in advance and make preparations so Jesus could “eat” the meal with them.

When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus' disciples were aware of the time when they were to eat the “passover meal”. Though they did not know where Jesus wanted them to eat it, they knew it was time, and preparations needed to be made. The disciples did not understand these were all “shadows” leading people to the true “paschal lamb” which was Jesus, being offered as a sacrifice for the sins of all people. When people look into God Almighty's plan and timing to offer His Son Jesus upon the cross to have a personal relationship with Him, they find God as a loving Father who not only sent His Son Jesus to “eat” the “passover” meal, but also to actually be that “meal” of which everyone who believes may partake.

Next time we see Mark share how Jesus says, “Go you into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
