Affliction Like Never Before - Mark 13:19

Mark wrote how Jesus toward the end of the age, “you shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. But when you shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that reads understand), then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains. And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house. And let him that is in the field not turn back again for to take up his garment. But woe to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! And pray you that your flight be not in the winter”, and in chapter thirteen and verse nineteen of his book, Mark shared how Jesus says, “in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning” where we read:

For in those days shall be affliction,

such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.

The verse reads, “For in those days shall be affliction, ...” Mark began with the words, “for in those days” or “because, since and on account that in the days of the abomination of desolation” “shall be affliction” which means “will exist oppression, tribulation, pressure, distress and straits”. Mark shared how there would exist great “tribulation and distresses” in these times.

The verse continues, “... such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be. Mark added the words, “such as was not from the beginning” which means “which did not exist or come into being from the origin, commencement or principle rule” “of the creation” or “pertaining to the founding, establishing and institution” “which God” or “that the Godhead and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “created” which means “founded, established and instituted” “unto this time” or “until the time of the abomination of desolation”, “neither shall be” which means “nor and in no way will there ever exist anything like this time”. Mark shared how Jesus said the difficult times during the time of the “abomination of desolation” will have nothing in history with which to compare.

When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus said the troubles and tribulations which shall occur during the times Jesus spoke of will be so horrific that there is nothing in history to which they may be compared. God desires to have people come to Him through His Son Jesus so they may be “saved” from these terrible events. Those who are wise will not only study these things and meditate upon them, but also yield their lives to Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus says, “except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
